Lockdown List 1️⃣

Whether you’re self-isolating, working from home, or just doing your bit, we’re all going to need each other to get through these strange and difficult times. And with cinemas closed and film releases on hold indefinitely, you might be faced with a very important question in the face of endless streaming possibilities: What should I watch tonight?

Fortunately, the team at elevenfiftyfive and our sister company ourscreen have put together your essential Lockdown List, all available to stream at home right now. It sucks to be stuck indoors, but it’s even worse when you’re watching a bad movie. Here’s our list of what to watch, where, and why:

POINT BREAK (dir. Kathryn Bigelow, available on BBC iPlayer) - recommended by David
An F.B.I. Agent goes undercover to catch a gang of surfers who may be bank robbers. Quintessential Keanu.

THE BIG SHORT (dir. Adam McKay, Netflix) - Ian
An amazing ensemble cast tell the story of what actual happens in the world. If it were a bond, it’d be AAA-rated.

FORCE MAJEURE (dir. Ruben Östlund, All4) - Rich
A tale of how your world can collapse whilst on a skiing holiday. Hilarious, excruciating, and sure to start an argument to help pass the time.

NIGHTCRAWLER (dir. Dan Gilroy, Netflix) - Gemma
Jake G in a breakneck thriller revealing the grotesque underbelly of local TV news in LA. Holds up a gnarled mirror to our media overlords.

PARIS IS BURNING (dir. Jennie Livingston, Netflix) - Ellie
A poignant portrait of 1980s Harlem drag balls - fierce, fun, glamorous and a story of survival.

MULHOLLAND DRIVE (dir. David Lynch, Amazon Prime Video) - Alex
Watch. Try to understand. Watch again. Repeat until you accept it can't be done. Cover your eyes when Winkies is mentioned.

BURIED (dir. Rodrigo Cortés, Amazon Prime Video) - Kips
Ryan Reynolds is stuck in a tiny box with his kids screaming in the background. Relatable.

BLINDNESS (dir. Fernando Meirelles, YouTube Rental) - Adam
A plague of blindness sweeps America. One for those truly embracing these times. Peak Ruffalo.

EASY A (dir. Will Gluck, Netflix) - Faaria
A fun example of not believing everything you see and hear. Plus you get to see Stanley Tucci playing the best movie dad ever.

MUSTANG (dir. Deniz Gamze Ergüven, MUBI) - Lizzy
Beautiful coming-of-age portrait of five sisters, stifled by an increasingly conservative family living in a rural Turkish neighbourhood. A special one for those missing their siblings.

SHOPLIFTERS (dir. Hirokazu Koreeda, Amazon Prime Video) - Reg
A film about a family of petty supermarket thieves, that ends up delving much deeper. Quite topical in these times of uncertainty.
