JUNGLE / DRUM & BASS LEGENDS TOOK OVER RICH MIX FOR PREVIEW SCREENING OF SIRĀT.
This event sold out Screen 1 at Rich Mix in Shoreditch, London and was co-hosted by elevenfiftyfive’s David Kapur and Fracture.
Post film, Fracture curated a wider panel of iconic selectors from UK Underground music including DJ’s Flight and Double O.
Before the film David shared how Sirāt deeply moved him.
Sirāt pushes boundaries of story, of sound, of where it takes you.
When I thinking about how to respond to it musically, despite its incredible score, I went somewhere else. Its pulse, its relentlessness, its refusal to resolve… took me to UK underground music. To rave culture, to jungle and drum & bass. To scenes that constantly reset the boundaries and happily thrive in the shadows.
This experience was structured almost like a DJ handover. elevenfiftyfive put the film on. Stepped back, and let the DJ’s step up.
We ran with no rules and no rehearsals, allowing for total creative freedom. DJ’s watched the film in advance but each had no idea what the other was going to play and why.
Watch the video below for the full playlist of where Sirāt took Fracture, DJ Flight and Double O.
These are not tracks the DJs thought should have been in the film, but emotional and creative responses to Sirāt, drawn from their own record collections and experiences.
Played live on the cinema soundsystem straight after the screening, the selections passed from one DJ to the next as the elevenfiftyfive Soundsystem shifted the room from cinema to sound.
