WHY we created massive cinema.

MASSIVE Cinema was born out of a simple but urgent mission: to combat loneliness and isolation among young people.

In today’s fragmented world, connection can feel harder to find than ever—especially for Gen Z, where 71% report feeling lonely often or always.

We didn’t set out to build just another film club or content platform.

We set out to create inclusive third spaces — places beyond home and work where people feel truly seen, invited, and connected. And it had to be authentic and nationwide.

Cinema, social media, and design became our tools.

We combined the magic of shared screenings, the immediacy of digital platforms, and the distinctiveness of strong design to craft spaces—both physical and digital—where genuine connection happens naturally.

From 2019 to 2022, we were awarded funding by the BFI and National Lottery to help introduce our growing, diverse community to British cinema and emerging talent—at a time when they were struggling to cut through.

When the pandemic hit, we adapted. Moving fully online, we used watchlists, content, and virtual screenings to bring people together when they needed it most.
