Weapons

Releasing in the UK by Warner Bros on 8 August 2025.

Back in 2022, writer and director Zack Cregger took the film world - and the internet - by storm with the release of his directorial debut Barbarian. An inventive horror-thriller set in an Airbnb that was praised for its originality and unexpected plot twists, Barbarian grossed $45.4 million worldwide against a budget of just $4.5 million, and is still a firm favourite amongst horror fans.

An absolutely delicious, scary-yet-funny blockbuster that never lets up.”

A breakthrough directorial debut can be a tough act to follow, but Cregger’s sophomore feature Weapons looks to be as original, gripping and twisted as his first film. The premise of the film is simple; one night, all but one child from teacher Justine Gandy's (Julia Garner) classroom mysteriously run off into the night. Justine and the rest of the community are left questioning who – or what – is behind the children's disappearance.

With hype building from the first teaser for the film released back in April, that showed the children eerily running off into the night through shots from windows and fake CCTV footage, the marketing for Weapons has perfectly balanced generating excitement (and fear) towards the film whilst also not revealing too much. Its latest trailer - which amassed almost 20m views on YouTube - still keeps its cards close to its chest whilst upping the stakes (and gore) to suggest what kind of horror thrill-ride audiences are in for. Whatever Weapons has in store, we’re watching - but maybe through our fingers.

Don’t Miss!
